The papers Robust Focal-Plane Analog Processing Hardware for Dynamic Texture Segmentation (3rd prize, best student paper award) and Simplified State Update Calculation for Fast and Accurate Digital Emulation of CNN Dynamics have been presented in "CNNA 2010: International Workshop on Cellular Nanoscale Networks and Applications", held in Berkeley, CA (USA) from February, 3th to February, 5th.

15/12/2009 Successful in-situ detection of controlled burns

Smoke from two controlled burns perfomed in collaboration with the Andalusian Fire-Fighting Service has been succesfully detected in-situ with the commercial smart camera built by Anafocus. No false alarms were triggered. Sequences containing both burns are available at the Download Area within the folder 'Las_Navas_session_2'.

09/12/2009 Collaboration with the Andalusian Fire-Fighting Service

In collaboration with the Andalusian Fire-Fighting Service, controlled burns are going to be performed in order to set the parameters of the algorithm according to a real fire. At the same time, the current parametrization will be evaluated in situ through the commercial smart camera built by Anafocus. The tests will be carried out in the public estate "Las Navas-El Berrocal", located in the province of Seville, Spain. In a preliminary visit, some recordings were realized in a vegetation environment in order to check off-line the reliability of the algorithm against false alarms. All the collected material can be found at the Download area.

08/02/2009 Conference paper: VISAPP 2009

The paper A VLSI-oriented and power-efficient approach for dynamic texture recognition applied to smoke detection has been presented as "full paper" in "VISAPP 2009: International Conference on Computer Vision Theory and Applications", held in Lisbon (Portugal) from February, 5th to February, 8th.

09/01/2009 Second session in the Parque del Alamillo of Seville

The objective of this session has been the in-situ detection of smoke by implementing the vision algorithm in a commercial vision system which incorporates programmable focal plane processing and can be powered by a simple battery.

19/09/2008 Conference paper: Forest Fires 2008

The paper A vision-based monitoring system for very early automatic detection of forest fires has been presented in "Forest Fires 2008: International Conference on Modelling, Monitoring and Management of Forest Fires", held in Toledo (Spain) from September, 17th to September, 19th.

25/01/2008 First session in the Parque del Alamillo of Seville

Several sequences containing gradual appearance of smoke traces into vegetation scenes have been recorded by using camcorders and commercial pirotechnics. It permits to set the values of the different parameters of the vision algorithm as well as to have a repository for future work. Moreover, sequences without smoke traces have been recorded in order to check the reliability of the algorithm.
