Objectives
The main objective of this project is the incorporation of vision into
the nodes of a wireless sensor network (WSN) using a
power efficient hardware.
The following partial objectives are
established in order to achieve this goal:
-
CMOS implementation of bioinspired concurrent image sensing and processing at the focal plane.
The emulation of the biological mechanisms for the capture and coding of the visual stimulus at both,
architecture and circuit levels, improve the energy efficiency of the vision system. Especially when confronted
with conventional architectures under very demanding processing requirements.
-
Integration of a complete vision system-on-a-chip: capable of sensing, processing at different abstraction
levels and communicating with other devices. For this, a microcontroller will be embedded into the same
substrate than the bioinspired sensor/processor array.
Higher level tasks as running user-defined processing algorithms and communication tasks will be
realized by this core device.
-
Integration of the subsystems for sensing/processing, communications and power supply in
a compact low-cost format. This system will be able to support vision in a
wireless sensor network.
The previous know-how on non-conventional sensing/processing hardware integration
will allow resource optimization as well as a coherent arrangement of the system.
